It started with cookies.
Things got a little out of hand.
Milk Before Bed began as a small-batch cookie company.
I wanted to make really good cookies—cookies for late nights, early mornings, celebrations, bad days, good days, and the very specific moment when you decide at 10 PM that turning on the oven is reasonable.
And for a while, that was the whole idea.
Then I started paying attention to everything happening around the cookies.
I kept tweaking recipes, scribbling notes in the margins of my notebook, making tiny changes to my batches that made the next one even better. There were baking questions I couldn't stop thinking about and kitchen tools I became weirdly opinionated about.
Turns out, I didn't only love making cookies. I love baking.
I love learning why things worked, figuring out why they didn't, and making the whole process feel a little less intimidating and a little more fun.
So Milk Before Bed started growing.
Now, it's a little bit of everything.
You'll still find cookies here. They're not going anywhere.
But you'll also find recipes designed for real kitchens, including plenty of small-batch recipes for the nights when you want six cookies—not three dozen.
There are Kitchen Notes, where I share the things I've learned after making an unreasonable number of cookies: why they spread, how to tell when they're actually done, what seemingly tiny ingredient changes do, and all the other things recipes don't always explain.
There's The Printable Pantry, filled with useful little things for baking, gifting, gathering, and generally making it look like you planned ahead.
And eventually, there will probably be more.
Recipe collections. Classes. Things for your kitchen. Seasonal projects. Maybe a few ideas that don't make much sense until they do.
That's part of the fun.
The idea hasn't really changed.
Milk Before Bed is still about good food and the moments around it.
It's about making something because someone is coming over.
Dropping a box of cookies on someone's porch.
Trying a recipe again because the first batch wasn't quite right.
Standing in the kitchen after everyone else has gone to bed because you suddenly have an idea you need to test.
It's not about making everything perfect.
It's about making things worth sharing.
So whether you're here because you need a cookie recipe, you're trying to figure out what went wrong with your last batch, or you just like hanging around people who think butter is a perfectly reasonable personality trait—
welcome.
I'm glad you're here.
